FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 16, 2015
Rebel Rock Racing finished off the best season in the teams’ short history in 2014, and is using that success to build for an even stronger 2015 campaign. The eye is clearly on the prize of being in the hunt for the championship in both the Street Tuner and Grand Sport classes from the drop of the green flag at Daytona in one weeks’ time, until the drop of the checker at Road Atlanta to finish the season in October.
Team Owner Jim Jonsin feels he’s assembled a strong lineup throughout his three entries heading into next weeks’ season starter, and knows that with the talent he’s amassed both behind the wheel and over the wall, Rebel Rock Racing will be a force to be reckoned with in 2015. The crew is equally as excited as Team Manager Mike Morgan states: “I’m really looking forward to the 2015 season with Rebel Rock Racing. We have great driver line-ups across the board in each car, and our crew is one of the best in the IMSA paddock. Our engineer Louis Milone has the cars really dialed in for Daytona, and I can’t wait for the drop of the green flag!”
Engineer Louis Milone echoed Mike’s sentiments; “I’m confident that the work that the Rebel Rock team has done in the offseason, combined with the rock solid driving talent that has been secured, should be the launching pad for a strong start in the season opener. We’ve gotten our feet wet in the Roar test, and now it’s time to prove ourselves in the race!”
In the #87 ST-class Porsche Cayman will be Ramin Abdolvahabi and series veteran Mark Pombo. Marks brother Mat will share Mark’s seat throughout the season. The #88 ST-class Porsche Cayman will feature an all-celebrity lineup in Grammy Award winning music producer Jim Jonsin with actor Erik Valdez. The lone bullet in the GS class gun for Daytona and hopefully more events will be two-time Trans Am Series Champion Cameron Lawrence and renowned Porsche driver Andy Lally sharing the #08 Porsche 997.
#87 Driver Ramin Abdolvahabi: “After a great test weekend with RRR at the Roar, I am very pleased and excited to start the new season in CTSCC with RRR at Daytona. During the test I got to know the team better and am highly impressed with their professionalism and team spirit. On top of that they know how to have fun doing what we all love. We meshed very well and I am certain we will do well in the race. These guys work hard to be the best and I will work hard to represent them the best. I’m proud to be welcomed as part of the RRR family. Hey Jim (Jonsin): Let’s get racin’ !!!”
#87 Driver Mark Pombo: “After crossing paths with Jim and the Rebel Rock Racing team the past few years at the track, the opportunity for the Pombo’s to join the Rebel Rock Racing family has finally arrived. I would like to thank Jim for making sure it happened. I have had the pleasure of working with several of the Rebel Rock crew guys in the past and I am looking forward to getting some success with those guys again, as well as meeting and working with the rest of the team. The team had some great results last year in their first year with the Cayman’s. The offseason development and planning going into 2015 is exciting as evidenced by a successful Roar test. I’m thrilled to be joining Ramin at Daytona and I look forward to helping continue the team’s momentum into the 2015 season.”
#87 Driver Mat Pombo: “I cannot express how excited I am to get the 2015 IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge season under way. Joining the Rebel Rock Racing team is a perfect fit for Mark and I. Mark is joining Ramin in the #87 Rebel Rock Cayman to go for some wins and challenge for the championship. My role this year will be more in support of the 87 and filling in where I need to, and if the opportunity arises in the 88 with Jim and Erik. I look forward to working with the Rebel Rock team and drivers and watching the IMSA paddock take notice of what we’re going to accomplish this season. Jim has really put a lot into this program and I appreciate the opportunity he has given us. The cars have both been super competitive during testing and I can’t wait to get back on track and have some fun this year in one of the most competitive road racing series in the world.”
#88 Driver Jim Jonsin: “As the Daytona Rolex 24 race weekend approaches I find myself felling like a kid again waiting to go ride my new BMX bike with friends from the Neighborhood. I have known some of the guys on the race team since we were young teenagers, it’s a blessing to share these race weekends with my buddies, when I look at our driver lineup, I have to pinch myself! I mean, Andy Lally and Cameron Lawrence in the 08 GS car, Mark Pombo and Ramin Abdolvahabi in the 87 ST car, and I get to co-drive with TV star and badass race car driver Erik Valdez; we couldn’t have put this team together without a lot of hard work over the last three seasons. I want to thank all of you that have helped us along the way, too many names to mention, but you all know who you are! A special thanks to our 2015 partners in crime, Ingersoll Rand Tools, Western Star Trucks, Alliance Truck Parts, Oakley, OMP, Olloclip, Made Communication, Fab Law, Total MD, Blik Studio, IMSA, Continental Tire, and all the amazing Fans, we love ya’ll, see you at Daytona.”
#88 Driver Erik Valdez: “Racing in Daytona is a dream come true! I’m beyond excited to be doing it as part of the Rebel Rock Racing team! They’ve welcomed me with open arms, worked with me to get me up to speed during the Roar, and already treat me like family. Simply put, these guys are the best in the biz!”
#08 Driver Cameron Lawrence: “I’m really happy that things worked out and that I’ll be running with Andy Lally. I think Jim and his crew will give us a strong car and will give us a chance to run up front and fight for the win. It’s going to be a tough race, and I’m sure will be a great race for the fans as usual!”
#08 Driver Andy Lally: “I’m thrilled to be racing with Rebel Rock! I’ve been friends with Jim Jonsin for a while now and we’ve been talking since the end of last season. I’m looking forward to working with a team that I know is capable of winning. On top of being reunited with my old friend Louis Malone, I am also very much looking forward to working with Cameron as he has shown big speed in everything that he is in. I can’t wait for Daytona!”
