FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: October 8, 2014
The 2014 racing season came to a close this past weekend for the Racers Edge Motorsports, and leading up to the finale at Road Atlanta for the Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge Series (CTSC) the team had multiple Top-10 finishes with their cars, and looked to accomplish the same to close out the season. The team had a driver line up that Team Owner Jon Mirachi knew could compete with any on the grid, and the team overall had a positive feeling going into the event.
Sharing the #78 Ford Racing/Gary Yeomans Ford/Keeper Securities Ford Mustang 302R would be season long driver David Levine and team and series newcomer Austin Cindric. In the #68 Ford Racing/Wheels Up! Ford Mustang would be Ricardo Flores and David Calvert-Jones.
Cindric would have to get used to the new car and first time on the Road Atlanta track having made the transition from USF 2000 and Global Rally Cross, but did so in fine fashion by qualifying his car in the seventh position to start the race. In the sister car Calvert-Jones would qualify and would power the American muscle car to a 10th place result in qualifying to start the race.
With a wet race track to start the race, it would be up to both drivers to settle in and handle both the conditions and busy traffic well in order to keep their respective cars in good order for their co-drivers to take over and finish the race high in the order. Both drivers would bring their cars into the pits under yellow flag conditions in the Top-10, following the overall plan to a tee. Levine took over the #78 and Flores in the #68.
At the finish, the #78 machine of Levine/Cindric would cross the line in seventh position, and the #68 of Flores/Calvert-Jones would finish in the 13th position. Of the event Levine states; “Our race at Road Atlanta was pretty good. We are very happy to come home in seventh on the weekend. Austin drove a great race and kept the car clean which made my job a lot easier. I have to say thanks to my mechanics this weekend, Joe and Tyler, for prepping the car for the finale. It was nice to end this season of ups and downs with another Top-10!”
Ricardo Flores, who was debuting in the series this season, and learning each track as they went, states; “I really like the series, the tracks we race on are some of the best in North America. I’m really looking forward to 2015 where I’ll know the tracks and series better next year. I want to say a big thank you to the Racers Edge Motorsports team, Ford Racing and Gary Yeomans Ford for their support this season.”
In the end, David Levine would finish 12th in the Drivers’ Championship, with Racers Edge Motorsports 10th in the final Team Championship standings. The race can be viewed on Fox Sports 1 at Noon EST on Sunday, October 12th.
