FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 9, 2015
The 2015 season kicks off this week for the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge series at Daytona International Speedway with on-track testing for both the Grand Sport and Street Tuner classes. Joining the fray will be series regulars Rebel Rock Racing and their stable of Porsche’s in both classes.
The team, which was founded by Grammy Award winning music producer Jim Jonsin, is aiming on accomplishing several team and driver goals this week with three of the teams’ four cars participating. They will be working on gaining the right set ups for the official start to the season later this month, testing updates and working out drivers that are testing with the team for the first time.
For the test in the Street Tuner Porsche Caymans will be Team Owner Jim Jonsin sharing the #88 machine with actor Erik Valdez, along with Ramin Abdolvahabi and James Vance in the #87 entry. For Valdez, this will be his team and series debut as the actor plans to campaign throughout the season with the team as his filming schedule allows.
Team Owner Jim Jonsin states; “We had a great season in the IMSA CTSCC in 2014, and I’m looking forward to a strong start to this season as we have some great drivers in the lineup. I’m super stoked to have Erik Valdez co-driving with me this weekend; he and I share a great passion for motorsports and entertainment, it’s nice to pair with a guy like Erik. We are welcoming Ramin and James to the team for the first time, these two guys are very talented and they have some series experience from this past season, we hope to have them both on board for the 2015 season.”
Valdez can’t contain is excitement and anticipation for the season to start as he exclaims enthusiastically; “Super stoked to be making my pro debut in the IMSA Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge Series at such a legendary circuit…Daytona! I want to thank Jim Jonsin and the entire Rebel Rock Racing team for giving me an opportunity to jump back in the car. I have a steep learning curve ahead of me, but I’m going to do my best to make everyone proud.”
Both Abdolvahabi and Vance competed in the ST class in 2014 with other teams and are using their first runs with the Rebel Rock Racing team to try their hand at the Porsche Cayman and to gain chemistry with the team. Ramin states; “Roar 2015, Daytona, testing a Rebel Rock Racing Porsche Cayman alongside my good friend/co-driver James Vance! Am I excited? You bet!
“My 2014 rookie season went by blazing fast and amongst all I learned is that there is much more to learn. What better opportunity to do so than ushering the 2015 season with a competitive, established team such as RRR alongside a seasoned, amazing co-driver such as James. I am looking forward to a great test weekend and hopefully a successful and exhilarating season. Many thanks to Eric Burch (P1 Groupe) and Jim Jonsin (Rebel Rock Racing) for making it possible. You guys ROCK and I plan to do the same.”
Team mate and co-driver James Vance echoes those sentiments; “I am extremely excited to get back on track for the first time in the 2015 season, and am even more pumped to get to work in the Rebel Rock Porsche Cayman. It’s the pre-season test, so we aren’t going out there to break any records, but we definitely want to get the car working well and make sure that we can build a good synergy within the team. I am also very happy to be driving alongside my friend, and now co-driver Ramin Abdolvahabi. It is just as important to me that Ramin benefits and learns as much as he can over the next three days in relation to the program and car, so we can hit the ground running. A big thank you to Exposystems, P1 Groupe and RRR for making this happen.”
Returning to the team for the Daytona test is former Pirelli World Challenge champion Robert Stout being joined in the #08 Porsche 997 GS car by two-time Trans Am Series champion Cameron Lawrence for his first outing with the team. “It’s nice to have Cameron joining the team alongside my good friend and former Rebel Rock celebrity Robert Stout, those two are a force and should kick some ass out there!” states Jonsin.
“I’m really looking forward to getting back into a GS class car at Daytona.” Lawrence continues; “I’ve driven with Robert before in a Cayman and confident that Jim and the whole team will give us a good car that’s capable of running at the front. I believe a good test at the Roar will allow us to gain momentum to carry into the race at Daytona later this month.”
Of the group Robert Stout is the veteran of sorts, albeit still a young driver, he is the one with the most experience with the Rebel Rock Racing team and the series. “I love the competition in the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge Series. There are some great drivers and teams that compete here. I’m very happy to be rejoining Rebel Rock Racing in their Porsche for this test, as I know they will give us a strong car right off the truck. Also being in an iconic brand like Porsche at the famed Daytona circuit is a big part of racing history, who couldn’t be excited about that!?” states Stout.
On track activities at Daytona International Speedway start at 9:00 a.m. ET tomorrow, January 9th, 2015 with the final session on 1:35 p.m. ET on Sunday, January 11th, 2015.
