Altamonte Springs–Mitchum Motorsports will again host the winner of the Sunoco 200 Challenge as it takes on the stout competition of the Continental Tire SportsCar Challenge Series GS class, and the high banks of Daytona International Speedway this weekend. This years’ winner is Swedish driver Oskar Kruger, and will share the #6.2 Mitchum Motorsports Sunoco Camaro with team driver Dylan Murcott.
The pair having already performed a shakedown at the Roar test two weeks ago, battled gearbox issues in the first session of the weekend yesterday, but found their form in the second practice and go into the race feeling good about the outcome of Friday’s race. Murcott states; “The team has been great, in between sessions they swapped the gearbox and changed the ratios. The car is much better as we have more power coming off the slow turns so we don’t have to downshift as much. We went out on older tires and were on pace, so on stickers and with a bit more time in the car, we should be in good shape for the race as long as we keep our car clean and out of pit lane.”
Kruger, who is making the transition from a paddle shift sports prototype to conventional H-Pattern gearbox in the heavier Camaro regarding the weekend stated; “The car felt good, I don’t have too much time in the car, so not completely used to it yet, but the team has it feeling comfortable to drive. For the race I’m looking to improve my pace, I know I have to run my race and pace I’m comfortable with, and hoping that puts us in contention. My job is to take care of the car and give Dylan an opportunity to finish at the front.”
The Sunoco 200 Challenge puts hundreds of European racing drivers, from various Sunoco-fueled championships, against one another using a unique points system. The winner of the Sunoco 200 Challenge is awarded a seat in a Mitchum Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro GS.R for the 200 mile Continental Tire Sportscar Challenge (CTSC) endurance race at Daytona. 2015 will mark the fourth year of the partnership between Anglo American Oil Company and Mitchum Motorsports for the Sunoco 200 Challenge.
